Career
He is fast, talented and always has his ambitious goals in mind: Gian Luca loves speed and has already laid the foundations for fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a Porsche works driver. Born in Bielefeld, he sat in a kart for the first time at the age of just five - even then with a big grin on his face. Even though Gian Luca briefly tried to earn a living as a footballer one day, his enthusiasm for motorsport quickly returned: when his father took part in various races in the Porsche Sports Cup, the goal was clear again for his son: "As soon as I'm allowed to, I want to and will race!"
Although the then 14-year-old Gian Luca was not allowed to sit behind the wheel himself for a long time, he accompanied his father to all races, coaching sessions and track days at the race track and gained important experience himself. He also had his first races and successes in rental karts and in the racing simulator, which also aroused the interest of sponsors. In 2021, Gian Luca finally celebrated his premiere in a racing car when he was allowed to compete in the Porsche Sports Cup Final. In the Porsche Endurance Challenge, the 16-year-old schoolboy caused a stir when he was able to keep up with significantly more powerful cars and even leave some of them behind.
The next step in his young career was thus taken: Gian Luca completed his first full season with the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS in the Porsche Sports Cup Germany in 2022. He quickly showed that he was a winner: the then 16-year-old took nine out of eleven possible pole positions in the Porsche Sprint GT and became the youngest race winner of all time. At the end of the year, he crowned his debut season when he was crowned the youngest champion in various classifications at the age of just 17. The man from Bad Salzufl not only won the class classification, but also the overall Porsche GT Sprint classification. Together with his father, the young talent also competed in the Porsche Endurance Challenge, where the successful family duo finished runner-up in class and in the overall standings. These successes also put Gian Luca at the top of the overall standings: the then 17-year-old was the first rookie in the history of the series to win the Porsche Sports Cup Germany.
In the 2023 season, he finally switched to the 510 hp Porsche 992 GT3 Cup. With the only car on the grid without traction control and ABS, Gian Luca prepared for his next career step: a promotion to the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, which is known as a talent factory for numerous works drivers and professional drivers. Nevertheless, the 17-year-old finished in the top ten and on the podium several times, making him runner-up in the Cup class of the Porsche Endurance Challenge. Gian Luca impressed not only the competition, but also his sponsors and Porsche itself.
With his promotion to the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, Gian Luca is one step closer to his big dream of becoming a successful works driver for Porsche. "I've finally achieved what I've been working hard for from the very beginning," says the 18-year-old, who has focused his entire life on racing. "I'm very happy about the opportunity that Porsche and my sponsors have given me. Not forgetting my father, without whom this development would not have been possible. I really appreciate that and that's why I will give everything in the 2024 season to turn this opportunity into results!"
Gian Luca can now look back on a successful first season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany as a driver in the Porsche Talent Pool. Even in this top-class competition, the 19-year-old from Bielefeld has impressed time and again with strong performances, spectacular races and outstanding moments. He caused a particular stir at the Sachsenring when he was named "Driver of the Day" with the most overtaking maneuvers.
"Being able to drive in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany is something very special. Competing against the best drivers in the world in such a strong field, where hundredths of a second make the difference, is an enormous challenge - but it's precisely these challenges that I love," explains Gian Luca, drawing a positive balance of his first season as a member of the Porsche Talent Pool.
The Porsche Talent Pool Program offers the young talent comprehensive support in many areas. From media training and workshops with experienced engineers to coaching sessions with former Porsche works driver Wolf Henzler at the racetrack - Gian Luca benefits from a wide range of professional support.
Gian Luca is now facing his second season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany. His goal is clear: he wants to make his mark again, experience further highlights and take the next step on the motorsport career ladder.
